Pregnancy sickness - £105

Nausea and vomiting can be a common and often debilitating part of pregnancy, around 90% of women will suffer from 1 or both symptoms.  Using a selection of complementary therapies and natural remedies I can ease and help eliminate this.

Whatever and however the symptoms present, you can be left feeling isolated, physically and emotionally drained, depressed and withdrawn.

The condition is often misunderstood and dismissed as being a minor complaint, without many people realising how debilitating and disruptive it can be, not only to the you but also family, friends and work.

A 1 hour initial appointment will give time for a full history of past issues and the pregnancy to date, allowing for the best treatment to be selected for you.  This will be followed up by a telephone review and further face to face 30 minute consultation if required.

Treatments will be dependent on your symptoms and requirements and may include  acupuncture, accupressure, reflexology, aromatherapy and homeopathy advice.

Preparation for labour - £185

For many women pregnancy will go beyond their expected due date and many will progress beyond 40 weeks. For most pregnancies this is still considered normal but many women will begin to feel the pressure of wanting to start their labour naturally, rather than the route of a hospital induction process.

This package includes 3 treatment sessions, ideally alternate days, to encourage the onset of labour.  It is not suitable prior to 37 weeks.

It has been reported that even if labour does not begin as a result of the treatment, when the labour is induced, the process is easier to establish.

The treatments used will be dependant on your preferences and also how the pregnancy has progressed.  Acupuncture, aromatherapy, reflexology, massage, acupressure and natural therapies advice may be included.

Breech baby - £85

Moxibustion is an externally applied Traditional Chinese Medicine  (TCM) treatment using a Chinese herb called Moxa (Artemisia argyi), commonly known as ‘Mugwort’.

For external use, the Moxa is compressed and rolled into cigar-shaped herbal sticks which are then lit and held over acupuncture points.  The radiant heat produced has the effect of stimulating the point.

According to TCM theory, moxa has a tonifying and warming effect which promotes movement and activity.  To turn baby from breech to head down, this warming and raising effect is utilised to encourage the baby to become more active and lift its bottom up in order to gain adequate momentum to summersault into the head down position.

While the majority of breech babies turn spontaneously before birth, the longer a baby stays in the breech position with conditions becoming more cramped, the less likely it will be to turn of its own volition.

This treatment will comprise of a 1 hour session to teach you, and birth partner if you wish, how to use Moxa safely and correctly.  You will then complete the treatments as recommended, generally twice a day for 5 days.  Telephone follow up and the moxa sticks are also included in the package.

Acupuncture is also an option to encourage baby to turn.

Reflexology - £55

Reflexology, also known as zone therapy, is an alternative non-intrusive complementary health therapy involving application of pressure to the feet and/or hands.

It is based on a system of zones and reflex areas that are said to reflect an image of the body. Sometimes they are described as "mini maps", on the feet and hands with the premise that such work effects a physical change to the body.

Manual manipulation and firm touch is used to aid relaxation and provide relief from pregnancy related conditions.

For the best effect regular sessions throughout pregnancy are advised.

No oils or creams are used during reflexology treatments.

Aromatherapy - £55

Aromatherapy is the practice of using the natural oils extracted from flowers, bark, stems, leaves, roots or other parts of a plant to enhance emotional and physical well-being.

The inhaled aroma from these "essential" oils is widely believed to stimulate brain function. The oils can also be absorbed through the skin, where they travel through the bloodstream and can promote whole-body healing.

Following discussion of what you hope to achieve from the treatment I will prepare a blend of oils unique to your needs and aroma preferences.  Together with massage, compress or foot bath this will alleviate pregnancy ailments and provide relaxation.

Certain essential oils should be avoided during different stages of pregnancy, it is important to seek out an appropriately trained professional before treating any conditions.

During pregnancy essential oils can be used to help ease & treat a number of physical and emotional ailments;

  • treat pain and discomfort in muscles and the skeletal system, especially around the upper and lower back and pelvis as your body adjusts to the changes it undergoes during pregnancy,
  • improve circulation and lymphatic drainage, thus reducing swelling associated with pregnancy,
  • ease sinus congestion and headaches (not those associated with high blood pressure),
  • have a positive effect on the skin, penetrating into the deeper layers to encourage the process of cellular renewal, enhance blood circulation and help problems such as acne, eczema and stretch marks,
  • help with wound healing,
  • known have a dynamic effect on our emotional state, helping to transform our moods and move us from one state of mind to another therefore are useful in easing and reducing depression, anxiety and insomnia that may present during pregnancy.
